Five Months!

Our little guy turned five months old today. Unfortunately he's got a head cold right now that's got him coughing and sniffling like crazy, but he's a trooper. Still giggling, babbling, and smiling up a storm!

Here are some highlights from this month:
  • Rolled over from tummy to back for the first time, and hasn't done it since!
  • Got so close to rolling over from back to tummy, but hasn't really tried since!
  • He has started babbling non-stop. Over Memorial Day weekend it was like someone turned on a light switch - all of a sudden he started babbling so much more. With that comes a lot more laughing and even some more squeals!
  • He's started playing with toys now. I'll hand him a rattle or other toy and it will actually entertain him - he'll hold it, put it in his mouth, stare at it, and more!
  • He's getting pretty close to sitting up on his own. Right now he's really good at it as long as he has some help. He can hold himself up pretty well with just one hand holding on to us.
  • He's getting a lot more squirmy when you hold him. It's like he's trying to crawl out of your arms sometimes. And if he sees either Chris or I he'll giggle and hide his face...it's pretty cute :)
  • When he's on his belly he moves his legs and butt like he wants to crawl...those arms just aren't strong enough to keep him up yet!
  • For some reason if you say "big, big, big" in a high pitched voice (or "big, pig, pig" as Chris likes to say) it always makes him giggle.
  • Sleep was going really well, but we had a few setbacks. Somehow he got in the routine of waking up at 3 AM every night. He'd go right back to sleep if you gave him his pacifier, but then he'd wake up an hour after that (or every hour after that) looking for his pacifier. So we've stopped giving him the pacifier and that seems to have helped....after one very long night!! He seems to be back to sleeping all night again (thankfully)...except when he breaks out of his swaddle....I think that will be the next thing we'll have to stop...not looking forward to that!
  • We also had his first parent teacher conference at daycare...which was pretty hilarious since he's so young. What were they going to say? That he's been talking back!?! It went well - nothing too exciting to report. Just that we all need to make sure he gets lots of tummy time.
  • Lastly he's started noticing Morgan in the last week or so. He stares at her now and watches her walk around the room. He's also starting to react (with giggles!) when she licks his feet.

Overall the last five months have been amazing! I know we'll have even more big changes in the next few months!

Here's the little guy with his teddy bear!

P.S. No more monthly cupcakes...I could only take four months of it!! Especially when Ryan can't help eat them!
